Selection Process

The Master of Quantitative Finance is a small program, admitting 15 to 20 students per year. Since we typically receive many applications for the program from qualified individuals, the competition is quite rigorous and standards are high.

Applications Reviewed

  • After the January 15th deadline, all applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee who look closely at transcripts, supplemental information forms, references and resumes.

  • From this review a short list of applicants are selected to write the entrance test.

Entrance Test - early February

  • This is a 2 hour diagnostic test with questions on a wide range of topics including: mathematics, statistics and finance as well as some relating to career goals.

  • For individuals in the Kitchener-Waterloo or Greater Toronto Area it is expected that they will write the test at the University of Waterloo.

  • Applicants at significant distances complete their entrance test on-line. Internet access is required and password/log on information is provided.

  • For individuals writing on-line test where time zones require adjustment ---time and date will be arranged at the time you are short-listed.

  • The format of the test is a series of multiple choice, short answer and short essay questions involving some problem solving.

From those who write the entrance test another screening is made and selected applicants are then interviewed by the Committee. For applicants at a distance the interview is conducted by telephone.
